About the Course

This foundational course offers an introduction to participatory training—a methodology rooted in adult learning principles that values experience-sharing, active engagement, and collective reflection. While it does not aim to create master trainers overnight, the course equips learners with essential skills, practical tools, and key insights to begin designing and facilitating effective participatory training programmes.

This course emphasises:

  • Cultivating a trainer’s mindset by effectively assessing learner needs and formulating clear, outcome-oriented learning objectives
  • Designing structured, knowledge-centric training programmes tailored to diverse learner profiles
  • Applying participatory and experiential learning methods, including structured experiences, role plays, simulations, case studies, group discussions, and educational games
  • Equipping participants with a practical and adaptable toolkit to facilitate dynamic, engaging, and learner-focused training sessions

Objectives of the Course

  • Introduce the core principles, theoretical foundations, and significance of participatory training, fostering a deeper appreciation of its relevance in adult learning and capacity-building contexts
  • Enable effective design and facilitation of participatory training programmes, particularly those focused on knowledge dissemination, using appropriate tools, techniques, and methods tailored to audience needs and context
  • Promote the creation of inclusive, interactive, and engaging learning environments through participatory strategies that encourage collaboration, reflection, and learner ownership
